Soft Beginnings of the Holiday Season – Little Things That Create the Mood
25/11/26

After such a long break, it feels good to be back on the blog - and just in time for the most magical season of the year. There’s one week left until December, and somehow everything begins to sparkle a little more.

Shops are already filled with lights, ornaments and holiday displays that look as if they were taken straight out of a film.Is it time to decorate the apartment? For me - not yet. I’m saving the tree for December. That moment deserves its own little ritual.

November, on the other hand, is my month of quiet preparation.I check what I actually need - napkins, wrapping papers, small essentials that somehow make December easier. But let’s be honest: walking past all those beautifully arranged ornaments, candles and fairy lights… impossible to stay completely indifferent.

An Advent Candle to Mark the Days

Years ago, I received a similar candle as a gift — a simple pillar candle wrapped with a small paper calendar, the kind where you cross out each day until the 24th. Last year in Copenhagen, at a Christmas market, I spotted something familiar: tall, slim advent candles marked with numbers. Since then, I’ve seen them in many online shops, and I love how understated they are. Most of them are unscented, which for me is a huge plus.I never enjoy those heavy, artificially sweet cinnamon fragrances — they overwhelm instead of calming.

An advent calendar candle is such a delicate, charming decoration. My favourite this year is the one from Normann Copenhagen 🤍

A Scent That Smells Like December

A few years ago, in an advent calendar from Douglas, I found a mini shower gel from the La Résidence Seathalasso Wellness Spa line. Since then, that scent has become “December” for me. I’m not the best at describing fragrances, so I’ll borrow the official notes: bergamot and salty marine accords. If you like clean, fresh scents - you might fall in love with it too.

For me, scents are a kind of decoration as well. And this one is reserved only for December and Christmas.

An Advent Wreath & Winter Greens

I’ve had my wreath for years now. Originally, I bought it to hang on the front door, but somehow every season it ends up above my cooker hood - where I can see it all the time.

Recently on Instagram I came across the most beautiful minimal wreaths: hung on a door handle, decorated with just a ribbon or a single paper ornament. Very Scandinavian, very subtle.
